In the Qing dynasty, this 18 m high main hall of Hangzhou Confucius Temple was built to enshrine and sacrifice Confucius. It includes 7 rooms as seen from the front and 5 rooms seen sideways. With some  columns reduced, it has become Hangzhou’s only extant wooden single-storied and double-eaved structure featuring a gable-on-hip roof. Today the ceilings and beams still remain late Qing period’s more than 800 m2 vivid landscapes, flowers, creatures and portraits.
