Model calligraphy refers to rubbings of engraved models of masters’ calligraphy on stones or boards. Originated during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, model calligraphy had gradually become thriving since the Song Dynasty all the way to the Qing Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty models of calligraphy collected in Hangzhou Confucius Temple were all engraved by masters with excellent workmanship. The models of calligraphy incorporate the strong points of different calligraphic schools in past dynasties, which make us immersed in the world of authentic calligraphic works.
