A number of emperors of past dynasties were fond of painting or calligraphy. Some of their handwriting and painting were engraved on stone tablets as exhibited in the Imperial Stele Corridor. Emperors of the Song and Qing Dynasties advocated civil administration and attached great importance to calligraphy. Those emperors’ handwriting preserved up to now has become important material evidence in interpreting their literary and intellectual brilliance.
