碑文内容系北宋文学家曾巩所作《墨池记》，记载曾巩应抚州州学教授王盛之邀，为临川墨池作记，以王羲之学习书法染黑池水一事，勉励后世学子，持之以恒、孜孜不倦的学习态度。清乾隆三十二年（1767）沈球书，汤士超刻。
In 1767, Tang Shichao engraved this record on the stele using Shen Qiu’s handwriting. Back in the Northern Song dynasty, Zeng Gong wrote the record upon Fuzhou prefectural schoolmaster Wang Sheng’s invitation, expecting pupils could study hard like Wang Xizhi, who made his pool turn black by pouring used ink and water.
