In 1900, Wu Yin, a co-founder of Xiling Seal Society, engraved this collection on steles using the newly introduced photographing technique. There were 40 steles, but only 19 are quite intact today. Either front or rear side of each stone was engraved with 5 couplets so that 300-odd couplets of 296 Ming and Qing Dynasty calligraphers could be included. They are the earliest couplet steles discovered in China."
