In 1600, a stele was engraved with 2 major Taoist portraits. The front side features a portrait of Zhenwu along with its title in seal script while the rear side features a portrait of Lü Dong bin, flanked by Southern Song and Ming scholars’ notes. The stele was erected at Yousheng Taoist Temple, Hangzhou in the Ming dynasty. Research shows that a similar portrait first emerged at Xiangfu Temple, Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province in Southern Tang Kingdom, during the Five Dynasties.
