the Northern Song dynasty, Mi Fu handwrote Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei’s poem. Because of 2 missing steles, there are 3 steles showing Mi Fu’s running script and Ming calligraphers’ inscriptions. In 1733, Lin Fengming engraved the calligraphies upon scholar Qian Xueshu’s request and Qian left his note. Mi Fu said that unlike others, he himself was expert in four scripts. At first, he imitated Yan Zhenqing and Li Yong. Later on, he studied Shen Chuanshi. In his twilight years, he followed Zhong Yao and Wang Xizhi. Overall, his profound yet naive calligraphy is “untrammeled like a celestial horse” according to Emperor Gaozong of Song.
